Suffusion Collapse Menu and Suffusion Selectik Menu at the end of their journey… but is not the final word…

As I referred in the readme file of Suffusion Collapse Menu, I will not longer maintain my plugins in Repository, as Suffusion itself was removed by WPTRT. Simply, my plugins are loosed their object, they cannot be used with other themes, so, not make any sense to maintain them.

These are known facts and I don’t want to discuss them again. But, when I received a mail from WordPress to update my plugins for the new WP 4.6, my angry was reactivated. And I write few words as a reply to this mail, considering that no-one will answer.

But I was wrong. Ipstenu and Otto replied to my mail and we had a long conversation… Wow… these guys are not only legends of WordPress, they aren’t only top programmers, but they are in the first place humans, very polite, open to discussions and open to help and finding solutions.

They really change my mind about WordPress team… Well, I will not publish our private discussion, but I had the feeling that WordPress team don’t want to lose us, don’t want to lose our expertise, but want to stay here and work together… But, as Otto said: “The short of it is that all things change over time, and we try to continually evolve plugins, themes, and even core itself to keep up”… And I will look fool if I negate his assertment… Of course everything evolving, but in coding, everything is evolving faster…

The conclusion of all our discussions was: “If the theme ever does want to fix the issues and get relisted in the directory, let us know and we can re-enable those plugins.”

So… this let me think… If the theme ever does want to fix the issues – Yes, myself and theme users need this, We definitely want to get the theme relisted.

Ahhh… even if my time is very limited now, I will try anything to get the theme listed again. For now I started to escaping the variables… Then I will try to activate a plugin for widgets… Then I will try to move the options to the evil customizer… Will take days? months? I don’t know… My time is very limited by the disease of my father in law… My skills are also limited and I will need help sometimes… But I can promise that I will make everything for getting back to our place. Sayontan show us the direction: “the best theme ever, ever for free”… Is hard, easy? Really don’t matter, my scope is to have “the best theme ever” in repository again…

As you can guess, I forwarded my discussion to Sayontan but I still waiting for Sayontan answer… and I still waiting for his help, but, like me… Sayontan is very busy in RL… I really want to try to save the best theme ever…

The alternative? The theme is death and no longer exist for good…

Until all these thoughts will get an official form, Suffusion users can download my plugins from the sidebar of this site.

P.S. –  I want to apologize to Emil Uzelac. On nerves I accused him for blocking Suffusion, but later I saw that he was one of the reviewers which approved Suffusion even if the theme didn’t respect the requirements. As a theme creator he understand to not break the user sites… Thank you Emil, and please forgive me…

  4. Drake,
Hope all is well with your father-in-law.

As I was going through some testing for the next version of Photonic, I hit the support forum to look for open issues on the plugin, when I realized that you have withdrawn from there. Not that I blame you, since you have been exceptional with supporting something that you did not build, with no expectation of reward or recognition. I then remembered our last email exchange.

As you can guess, I forwarded my discussion to Sayontan but I still waiting for Sayontan answer… and I still waiting for his help, but, like me… Sayontan is very busy in RL… I really want to try to save the best theme ever…

I didn’t realize that you were waiting for me to respond to it. The last email I have from you is one requesting Otto / Ipstenu to facilitate a transfer of ownership … to which there was no response.

Are you still interested? It is perfectly understandable if you are not. After several years of active theme development I was so fatigued at the end of it all that even looking at the code of Suffusion was a herculean effort, so I can relate to not wanting to do it any further. Plus, spending time with near and dear ones holds a lot more allure than working on a WP theme, at the mercy of a review team.

Let me know if you are interested, though, and I will reach out to the WPTRT and see about transferring the theme’s ownership to you (I believe the email you had sent was addressed to the wrong folks).

  5. Drake, Appreciate you sharing about this. Will stay tuned for updates. We all need to make decisions about future of sites, and your decisions influence my two sites and so many other people’s sites. Family first, the rest of us will wait.
